Our position
Modern slavery includes forced or compulsory labour, servitude, debt bondage and human trafficking. Staffing is one of the sectors where these risks are real, so we take our responsibility seriously. We will not knowingly work with anyone involved in modern slavery, and we follow the spirit of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 in everything we do.
Our business and supply chain
Ace Multiservice Ltd, trading as Ace Recruitment, is a staffing agency based in London. We recruit and place workers in hospitality, cleaning, medical and care, security and education roles with clients across the UK.
Our main supply chain is the labour we supply ourselves: we recruit workers directly rather than through other agencies. We also buy everyday goods and services, such as IT and software, office supplies and professional services.
Risks we watch for
In our sector, the biggest risks come from third parties who try to control workers. Warning signs include:
- Several unrelated workers sharing the same bank account, phone number or address.
- Someone else speaking for a worker, bringing them to interviews or collecting their wages.
- A worker who does not have access to their own identity documents or money.
- A worker who appears fearful, is unsure of their own address, or says they owe money for being found work or for travel.
Our policies and practices
- We never charge job seekers a fee for finding them work. This is also prohibited by the Conduct Regulations.
- We never keep anyone's passport or identity documents. We check originals or use the Home Office online service, and keep copies only.
- We pay every worker directly into a bank account in their own name.
- Every worker receives a written contract explaining their pay, hours and rights before they start.
- We carry out right-to-work checks for every worker before they start.
- Our Whistleblowing Policy lets anyone report concerns confidentially, without fear of losing work.
Due diligence
Our team reviews every application and checks identity, right to work and references before anyone is placed. We look out for the warning signs above during registration and throughout a worker's time with us. Where something doesn't add up, we speak to the worker privately to understand the situation and offer support.
When we use suppliers whose work carries a higher risk, such as payroll or umbrella companies, we expect them to meet the same standards and may ask them to show how they do so.
Training and awareness
Everyone in our team who registers, interviews or manages workers is trained to recognise the signs of modern slavery and knows how to escalate a concern. We refresh this training regularly.
Reporting a concern
If you are worried that someone is being exploited, tell us on 020 8854 3826 or at info@acerecruitment.com. Where someone may be at risk, we will act straight away and involve the police or other authorities where appropriate.
Our next steps
- Keep a record of any concerns raised and the action taken, and review it at Director level.
- Check that everyone who registers or manages workers has completed their training.
- Ask higher-risk suppliers to confirm how they prevent modern slavery.
Approval
This statement has been approved by the Directors of Ace Multiservice Ltd. We review it every year.
